Two games that were nail-biters and a day and night of fund raising for Cancer research all wrapped up into one as Knoxville swept Chariton in games heard live on AM 1320 and 95.3 KNIA on Saturday. The girls took over first place in the South Central Conference with a 54-49 win in a game that neither team shot the ball very well, but Knoxville was able to get to the free throw line and cash in especially in the final moments when freshman Maggie Wilkins canned three of four form the line with less than 30 seconds left to clinch the win. Assistant Coach Trent Keefer told KNIA/KRLS Sports the end of game execution was key. Katie Keitges led with 17 points, Wilkins had 13 for the Panthers who are now 13-4 on the season and 9-1 in the South Central Conference. The boys had another rock fight with Chariton as they came from six points down at the half to win 51-45. Like the girls, the boys also used free throw shooting in the waning seconds to seal the win. Patrick Crawford led a balanced attack with 13 points and Kieren Nichols scored 12. Knoxville evens its record at 8-8 and 8-2 in the conference. The Panthers have a date with Eddyville-Blakesburg on Tuesday, the girls can clinch a share of the conference title with a win, the boys must win to still have hope for the conference.
