The Knoxville Girls Basketball Squad piled up 43 points in the second half and broke open a close game with Newton to win 71-49 on Saturday while the boys kept it close but the Cardinals pulled away late to win 61-48. Panther Girls Coach Jim Uitermarkt told KNIA/KRLS Sports they played really good defense and kept Newton off the offensive boards. Katie Keitges led a balanced Knoxville attack with 18 points, Maggie Wilkins had 15 points, Alex Griggs had 14 and Cassidy Pearson contributed 11 points. Knoxville is now 10-2 on the season and will host Creston on Tuesday. The boys were close with Newton all game long and had a 34-31 lead in the third quarter when the Cardinals took control. Jacob Zuck led the Panthers with 15 points and Patrick Crawford had 13. Coach Jeff Larson told KNIA/KRLS Sports they played much better after Friday night’s loss to Albia. The boys are off until Friday when they host Clarke.
