The Knoxville Basketball Squads settled to for a split with Albia last night as the girls held off the Lady Dees 42-36 and the boys fell 52-35 in a broadcast heard live on AM 1320 and 95.3 KNIA. The girls used a 7-0 run to end the first half up ten and built the lead as high as 17 before settling for the six point win. Playing short-handed with Reilly Finarty out with an injury and Tara Uitermarkt out with an illness, the Panthers looked to their bench to take up the slack, and got it in the form of Alex Griggs, who led the scoring with 11 points off the bench. Coach Jim Uitermarkt told KNIA/KRLS Sports, Griggs and other players had more minutes than they were used to and took advantage. Uitermarkt also credited the team for their decision making in key spots as well. Knoxville moves to 9-2 on the season and 6-1 in the South Central Conference. The boy’s game was not the prettiest thing to watch as the Panthers defense was playing well in the first half limiting Albia to 12% from the field and leading 21-9. But the Demons flipped the script in the second half and burned the nets for 60% in the final 16:00 and outscored the Panthers 43-14 in the second half to win 52-35. Jacob Zuck led the Panthers with 13 points as they fall to 5-6 on the season and 5-2 in the South Central Conference. Both Knoxville teams are at Newton today.
