The PCM basketball teams split with North Polk last night in on their home gym in a pair of games heard live on our KNIA2 stream, with the boys pulling away in the second half for a 73-43 win, and the girls falling 68-38.

The Mustang boys got off to a slow start, scoring only 27 first half points en route to a 27-23. The scoring exploded in the third, with the Mustangs putting up another 27 points and lead by 15 going into the final frame. The fourth quarter was much of the same, with the Mustangs outscoring the Comets 19-4 for the 30 point victory. Reed Worth and Andrew Van Ryswyk each had 17 points, scoring all but four of those combined points in the second half. Head Coach Fred Lorensen told KNIA/KRLS Sports, that the second half offense was impressive out of his squad.

The girls squad stuck with the Comets through the first quarter only trailing by two points 17-15, but North Polk pulled away for the big win. Regan Freland scored 22 points to lead the team.

The boys improve to 14-5, the girls fall to 6-14, and both teams will host Greene County on Friday.
