The PCM Mustang boys and girls basketball teams split their doubleheader with the Norseman of Roland-Story last night in Monroe, with the boys winning 50-49 and the girls falling 51-38 in a pair of games heard live on KNIAKRLS.com.

The normally fast paced boys squad had a very slow start to the game, with neither team mustering much offense and the game was tied at 18 going into halftime. A back and forth second half saw both offenses heat up, and the Mustangs eventually found themselves tied with the Norseman at 47 with a minute and a half remaining. A converted and-one opportunity from Jackson Thomas gave the Mustangs a three point lead, then a layup from Roland-Story made it a one point game. A missed layup on the offensive end gave the Norseman a chance to win it at the buzzer, but a Noah Lanphier block sealed the game for the Mustangs. Reed Worth had 18 points, and Thomas put in 11.

On the girls side, a 15-0 run gave the Norseman a big lead going into halftime, and PCM couldn’t recover. Regan Freland had 15 points on the night, while Morgan Uhlenhopp had 6 points and 15 rebounds.

The Mustang boys improve to 10-2, the girls fall to 5-8 and both teams will take on Pella this afternoon.
