Wow was likely the prevailing thought after the Knoxville Girls Basketball squad stormed back from ten points down with a 1:50 to go to win 68-65 and clinch at least a share of the South Central Conference championship. Maggie Wilkins’s three made it 66-65 but a steal by Alex Griggs on the inbound and subsequent foul made the final margin after the free throws. Before that, the Panthers struggled to get anything going against the Rockets. Coach Jim Uitermarkt compared the girls’ night to a prize fighter who was down their last count on the mat. Katie Keitges had a monster game with 32 points, and Wilkins dropped in 21. Knoxville is now 14-4 on the season and can clinch an outright conference title on Friday. The boys had Eddyville-Blakesburg in their grasps, but a 7-0 run to close out the third quarter by the Rockets turned the game around Knoxville fell last night 64-55, which gave the outright conference title to Eddyville. Patrick Crawford led the Panthers with 24 points. Knoxville is now 8-9 and 8-3 in the conference. Both teams host Centerville on Hall of Fame night on Friday.
