Central Men Have Comeback Fall Short; Women Struggle Offensively in Losses to Loras

Wednesday night difficult for the Central College men’s and women’s basketball teams in a pair of losses to Iowa Conference foe Loras College in the Kuyper Gymnasium.

The Dutch men, despite a hard-charging comeback, fell 94-85. Central trailed to the DuHawks by as much as 21 with 8:30 to play in the first half, before closing the gap to eight by half and eventually held a small advantage numerous times halfway through the second period. Loras outscored the Dutch 19-9 in the last four minutes to take the W.

Central’s women (7-13, 2-9 conference) shot just 26.8 percent from the field in their 75-45 loss. Central senior forward Jackie Kriegel collected her seventh statistical double-double of the season with 12 points and 16 rebounds, including six offensive boards.

A trip to Dubuque awaits the Dutch Saturday for a matchup with the University of Dubuque for a women’s-men’s doubleheader with the women beginning at 2 p.m. Hear that broadcast live on 92.1 KRLS.
