A rural Pella man preparing for trial for numerous felony charges related to incidents in April of 2017 was arrested for offenses in Mahaska County this week.

George Hettinga, 66, is charged with unlawful possession of prescription drug, two counts of possession of a controlled substance – 2nd offense, and failure to affix a drug tax stamp. He was arrested by the Pella Police Department on a warrant Thursday and transferred to Mahaska County Jail. Hettinga is set to begin trial on March 5th for numerous felonies tied to two incidents in which police and emergency crews responded to Hettinga’s house at 993 240th place in 2017.

On April 20th, the Mid Iowa Narcotics Enforcement task force submitted numerous charges following an investigation, including manufacturing marijuana, a class B felony, failure to affix a drug tax stamp and possession of firearms as a convicted felon, each a class D felony, as well as maintaining a drug house. He also faces one count felon in possession of a firearm, a class D felony, and possession of a controlled substance — marijuana, after officers found two guns on the property and learned he was shooting them a week after the initial arrest.
