The Knoxville Public Library and the Knoxville Community School District are teaming up to help raise funds for the library’s expansion and renovation project.

The library and school district are conducting a change drive to run from February 12th through March 2nd. Students in grades K-12 with the support of friends and family are asked to bring in spare change to their classroom teacher at the K-5 elementary level and their advisory group at the middle and high school level to donate to the library.

Connie Davids with the Library tells KNIA/KRLS News with the drive she hopes students will get a feeling of ownership of the library. Davids says she wants to bring more awareness to the library and is offering to attend elementary classes and read to the students to get them interested in the library. At the end of the drive, rewards will be awarded at each school.

West Elementary’s highest earning grade level earns a trip to the Knoxville Recreation Center while Northstar’s highest earning grade level earns ice cream provided by the Elementary PTO and cookies provided by Hy-Vee. The Middle and High School’s highest earning advisory group earns a pizza provided by Pizza Hut and cookies & carrots provided by Faraway. Other sponsors providing coupon and gift certificates for incentives and drawings during the change drive include: Subway, Dairy Queen, McDonald’s, Hardee’s, Rib Shack, Casey’s, & Mr. C’s.
