A 16-year-old Knoxville High School student was arrested today on charges of “Threat of Terrorism.”

Early Wednesday morning, Knoxville School Resource Officer Kyle Keller received reports of a snapchat that showed what appeared to be an assault rifle with the caption, “Coming soon to high school.” Further investigation showed the rifle to be a plastic replica, and police and the school district say at no time was any student in danger. The female suspect was taken into custody and transported to a secure juvenile holding facility. She is charged with Threat of Terrorism, a class D felony.

The Knoxville Police Department and Knoxville Community School District commend all those who came forward with this information, and stress the importance of “See Something, Say Something.” Superintendent Cassi Pearson tells KNIA/KRLS News the school district is continuing to update their crisis plan and are looking at additional safety precautions.
