The Knoxville Public Library Board of Trustees held a special meeting Wednesday.

The board approved the plans and specifications for the new expansion and renovation project. The board was informed of the anticipated project schedule and bidding process. Groundbreaking for the project is anticipated in April with construction expected to take approximately 14 to 15 months to complete. The library will be relocating to the East Elementary School and will be closed for two weeks starting March 4th to the 18th in preparation for the move.

A public hearing will be held during the regular city council meeting on February 19 at 6:15 p.m. for the public to learn more about the project. Bid documents will be ready February 21st with the bid process closing on March 22nd at 2:00 p.m.

The project will result in a 15,000 square feet building with community rooms, a teen area, a drive-through drop box, bigger genealogy room, and multiple study rooms. Donations towards the capital campaign are welcomed and can be sent to the library or on-line at the Knoxville Heritage Foundation website.
