Lincoln Elementary students participated in activities and team challenges as part of an assembly Thursday afternoon.

The Pella Hy-Vee and Lincoln Elementary invited Daira Driftmier to lead and teach kids about the importance of exercise and wellness. Driftmier, a Lynnville-Sully and Central graduate, tells KNIA/KRLS News she enjoys getting young kids to engage in exercise and improve their overall wellness in school and at home through the Hy-Vee KidsFit program.

“We have a five week challenge that motivates parents and kids to implement healthy habits at home, through one little conversation you can do every day, or something you can play,” she says. “A local teacher here in Pella reached out, had heard of the program, and asked if I could come do the assembly for their school.”

She developed the program for families to incorporate better habits in their daily lives. The Pella Hy-Vee also provided kids at the assembly with a healthy snack, water bottle, fitness bag, and coupons for nutritious foods for their parents to use.
