A 2014 red Ford Fusion was reported stolen from Carriker Ford in Oskaloosa Wednesday morning.

Just before 10 a.m. a deputy with the Marion County Sheriff’s Office located a vehicle matching the description traveling westbound in the 2000 block of Highway. 92. When the deputy attempted to initiate a traffic stop the driver failed to stop. The driver, Eric Richard Schoonover II, 24, of Hedrick, attempted to elude law enforcement as he reached speeds over 100 mph.

The pursuit continued for approximately 30 miles as it passed through Marion County and entered Warren County where the chase came to a safe conclusion after the vehicle’s tires were deflated with the deployment of stop sticks by officers from the Indianola Police Department. Schoonover was taken into custody without incident.

Agencies assisting in the pursuit and capture of Schoonover included the Marion County Sheriff’s Office, Knoxville Police Department, Warren County Sheriff’s Office, Indianola Police Department, Iowa State Patrol, and the Carlisle Police Department. Once Schoonover was taken into custody law enforcement located several illegal items in Schoonover’s possession. Schoonover is being charged with eluding, operating a motor vehicle without the owner’s consent, possession of methamphetamine with the intent to deliver more than 5 grams, possession of drug paraphernalia, reckless driving, failure to have valid driver’s license as well as traffic citations for speeding, no insurance, and failure to obey a stop sign.
