The Pella boys basketball team had a roller coaster of games to end to the 2018 regular season, ahead of their playoffs beginning.

Head Coach Derek Schulte was impressed with the effort of the Pella boys when they faced two No. 1 teams in one weeks – Oskaloosa and Mt. Pleasant, with both games close until late in the fourth quarter. However, he says the trouble has been maintaining that level of play game-to-game, a trend that needs to break in the playoffs.

“I think the challenge that we’ve faced this year is we’ve been too inconsistent, to be really honest, and we could see that in the last week,” Schulte says. “Even though there were three losses in a row, anybody that saw us play Oskaloosa at really high level, turned around and played DCG in one of our worst games in the season, and then respond again with Mt. Pleasant, sometimes we looked like different teams on the floor.”

Despite the fact that the Little Dutch have dropped six straight, Schulte is excited about what the team is capable of, considering their performances against the Indians and Panthers. Coverage from Pella’s postseason opener Monday begins at 6 p.m. on 92.1 KRLS.
