The Pella City Council held five public hearings to tackle a wide range of issues at their meeting Tuesday evening.

They approved the first reading of a rezoning request by Central College and the adoption of the 2015 versions of the International Residential, Building, and Property Maintenance Codes. An amendment to the city’s Floodplain ordinance was also passed, and the second and third readings were waived. A public hearing was also scheduled to review allowing brewpubs with a special use permit in the Central Business District, however, the council tabled discussion until the Pella Area Community and Economic Alliance make a presentation about potentially modifying the ordinance in regards to the restaurant requirements. However, if the plan is modified, it could mean the entire ordinance would have to go back through the appropriate city boards before returning to council.

A Planned Unit Development Application was reviewed as well — which, if approved after two more readings, will allow construction of new townhomes from 402 to 410 Franklin Street. The PACE Alliance also made a budget request for the upcoming fiscal year of $30,000 — the same level of investment as they currently receive, which will be considered during the city’s budgeting workshops next week.
