Pella was recently ranked the second safest city in Iowa.

The ratings were compiled by the National Council for Home Safety and Security. Pella Police Chief Robert Bokinsky tells KNIA/KRLS News this is a testament to the citizens of Pella.

“I believe people naturally default to the local police department whenever they hear this is a safe community–they seem to praise the local police department, and we’re certainly happy to receive that praise,” he says. “But really, the truth be known, it speaks volumes about the community and the quality of the community.”

He says the ratings are based on two key areas.

“The algorithm that they run for this particular rating organization really just focuses on violent crime and property crimes, and we actually finished number two in the state in both,” Bokinsky says.

Bokinsky says their department strives to prevent crime in the community, and to keep citizens as safe as they can be.
