Despite a furious charge late in the fourth quarter, the Pleasantville Trojan girls basketball season came to a close last night 46-42 against the Blue Devils of Martensdale-St. Mary’s in the second round of regional play.

The Trojans suffered defeats in each of their first two matchups with the Blue Devils earlier in the season, and the third game started off with the two teams trading blows until late in the second quarter where Martensdale went on a run to take a 25-18 lead into halftime. Offense was hard to come by for both teams in the third, as the Trojans scored just 6 points to the Blue Devils 9, and things looked dire for Pleasantville heading into the fourth. The lead got as high as 13 before the Trojans started to press and force turnovers to crawl back into it. A three pointer by Jordan Dursky made it a four point game with 1:30 remaining, but the Blue Devils hit their free throws down the stretch to preserve their victory.

Pleasantville Head Coach Aaron Fichter told KNIA/KRLS Sports, that he was proud of the way his team fought until the very end. The Trojans end their season with an 11-12 record, and graduate a senior class consisting of six. Kelsee Van Haalen, Jessica Remster, Madyson Thill, Corinne Thomas, Kaylie Thomas, and Madison Ceradsky.
