A slow start did not end the Pleasantville Trojan girls basketball season last night on their home gym against the Tigerhawks of Colfax-Mingo, as the Trojans won 45-41 to advance in regional play.

Pleasantville survived an 8-0 run to start the game, and a second 7-0 run in the first half which ended tied up at 17 apiece going into halftime. Scoring picked up for the Trojans in the third quarter, as their active press forced turnovers which the Trojans took advantage of scoring 19 points taking a 7 point lead into the final period. The Trojans hit their free throws down the stretch to seal the victory, despite primary ballhandler and leading scorer Kelsee Van Haalen fouling out of the game.

Van Haalen ended up with just 6 points on a frustrating night, but the Trojan bench stepped up to the challenge scoring 26 points led by Corinne Thomas with 13, Taylor Foley withy 7 including a perfect 5-5 from the charity stripe, and Kaylie Thomas with 6.

The Trojans improve to 11-11, and will take on rival Martensdale-St. Mary’s on Tuesday night on the road.
