Legislators in Iowa are set to soon approve an increase for K-12 education funding for the upcoming fiscal year.

The Iowa House and Senate are working out an agreement to increase the general funds of public districts in Iowa by $32 million. Pella Schools Superintendent Greg Ebeling says they expected no increase at the beginning of the session, and while receiving some additional money is some positive news, the increase will fall well short of helping districts roll their books from year-to-year.

He says a now five-year trend of decreasing state aid has made budget situations even more dire for some districts, and while Pella remains in overall good financial health, other schools are not so fortunate and Pella Schools may see budget reduction strategies developing in the near future.

The Iowa Legislature will look to approve state supplemental aid by the end of next week.
