As the Iowa Legislature passes the first funnel, a deadline-proof tax reform package may come down the line near the end of the session.

At the recent PACE Alliance Business Forum, Representative Guy Vander Linden said a plan for individual tax cuts may start next year, but the bill will likely come to the table late in the session this spring. Bills involving appropriations or ways and means — including taxes, have no deadline during the session except for the final gavel.

Vander Linden said while relief is needed, he would have rather seen a more business focused plan. Before the discussion on taxes will begin, senators and representatives will look to resolve funding for K-12 education and budget cuts for the current fiscal year.
