The Central College softball wrapped up play at the prestigious NFCA Leadoff Classic yesterday in Tucson, Arizona.

After dropping a pair of games on opening day Friday, then winning two on Saturday, Central finished an even 3-3 for the weekend after splitting a pair of games yesterday.

The Dutch were downed by Linfield 11-5, then beat Whitworth 10-5.

Central trailed 3-0 in the opener, but plated four runs in the fourth to take the lead, with Emily Walton and Kaitlyn Andresen delivering RBI hits, and the Dutch executing a double steal. After Linfield tied the game in the fourth, Central reclaimed the advantage on a Shaye Witte triple and a Wildcat error, but Linfield scored six runs in the fifth to pull away.

Tied 2-2 against the Pirates in the nightcap, Central exploded for seven fifth-inning runs on seven consecutive hits. Andresen was 3-for-3 in the game with a double, triple and three runs batted in, and Paige Dickel added a pair of doubles.

Central finished in the middle of the pack at the 32 event with a 3-3 mark, and that’s their season record as well. After taking today off, they’ll play 10 games over the next six days at the Tucson Spring Invitational at the same facility.
