This weekend people are reminded to spring their clocks forward as Daylight Saving Time begins this Sunday at 2 a.m.

Daylight Saving Time will add one hour to standard time with the purpose of making better use of daylight and conserving energy. It was first signed into law by the United States in 1918 as way to conserve energy and support the war effort of World War I. Daylight Saving Time also serves as an effective reminder for Iowa residents to check all safety equipment in their home such as smoke detectors, fire extinguishers, and carbon monoxide detectors.
