On average, one person dies by suicide every 20 hours in the state of Iowa. One Knoxville family and friends will be contributing to the fight against suicide with a charity softball tournament.

Base Knox, a youth baseball and softball academy, will be hosting the first annual J-Lit Memorial Slow Pitch Softball Tournament on May 5th. The tournament will be in honor of Justin Little, former member and volunteer with Base Knox, who committed suicide last September.

Organizers of Base Knox and the softball tournament, and family with Justin Little, brothers Justin and Austin Kingery, tell KNIA/KRLS News that Justin was a big part of the academy, whether it was participating in it when he was younger or volunteering as he grew older. They went on to say that this tournament is a great way for family members of Little to get together and keep him in their thoughts while contributing to a good cause.

Money raised from the softball tournament will go towards Your Life Matters, a suicide prevention charity, and towards the Knoxville High School Athletic Department. For more information on how to participate or donate, visit the Base Knox Facebook page.
