Pella Christian High School presents The Crucible this Friday and Saturday in the Vermeer Auditorium.

Actresses Lindsey Breon and Alexis DeVries tell KNIA/KRLS News the show is about the Salem Witch trials in the 17th Century. Both say the subject matter can be darker than most shows they typically do, although this year’s speech team tackled a lot of difficult material in their performances.

“We did have very dark themes for speech earlier, but I think that is very different because the darkness isn’t necessarily the same,” DeVries says. “For me, [during speech team] I was playing a Nazi, and now I’m playing a wife that was cheated on — so that’s very difficult getting into the emotions of that and the betrayal.”

DeVries portrays Elizabeth Proctor, the wife of the protagonist John.

“I think individually for my character, what I’ve had to deal with is trying to be this lovesick, hopeless romantic teenage girl, and then at the same time this evil, manipulative, corrupt girl,” says Breon, who plays Abigail Williams, the main antagonist of the play.

Tickets for The Crucible are available in the Pella Christian High School Main Office.
