After an extensive Policy and Planning session earlier this week, the Pella City Council has passed on the issue of developing an ordinance for microbreweries to the Planning and Zoning Commission.

City Administrator Mike Nardini tells KNIA/KRLS News the city is attempting to develop language allowing the establishments in the community after residents highlighted a desire for those types of businesses.

He says one of the key issues for council is what will be allowed under the new code and where the establishments can be located. The Pella Area Community and Economic Alliance, as well as the potential owners of the business, Mindi Vanden Bosch and Betsy Duffy, presented at the session Tuesday, discussing their intentions with councilmembers and receiving feedback about the general direction of the potential zoning requirements.

Originally, the microbrewery discussion for the Planning and Zoning Commission was scheduled to take place Monday, but that agenda item has since been moved to a later date.
