Fifteen years ago, Pella’s Pierce Hibma wrapped up one of the most decorated careers in Iowa high school basketball history. Tonight he takes his place among the greats when he is inducted into the Iowa High School Athletic Association Hall of Fame.

After starring as a sophomore on a Little Dutch squad that finished third at the 2001 state tournament, Hibma led his club to back-to-back championships in 2002 and 2003.

Hibma was named to the all-tournament team all three years, becoming the first player in class 3A history to accomplish that feat. He’s still the only member of that club to this day. He was Pella’s all time leading scorer (1,301) and he holds the school’s career assist (310) record as well.

Hibma played his college basketball at Creighton, where he earned his degree from their College of Medicine. He’s currently a physician at Wake Forest Baptist Health in North Carolina.

The Iowa High School Athletic Association’s class of 2018 will be honored before tonight’s class 3A state championship game.
