Jon Thorup of rural Knoxville has announced his candidacy for State Representative for District 28 in the Iowa House of Representatives.

Thorup, a Republican, announced his intent to run after incumbent Greg Heartsill, a Republican from Columbia, announced he would not seek another term.

Thorup tells KNIA/KRLS News he is a lifelong citizen of Iowa, and that he is “proud to have always called central Iowa my home. I was raised and educated in Knoxville, and I’m very glad to still live here.”

Thorup is a long-serving Iowa State Trooper, and among his most urgent priorities are public safety, determining what is to be done with the VA campus in Knoxville, and the mental health crisis in Iowa.
