Buena Vista scored 18 runs over the final four innings to beat the Central College baseball team 21-9 on Saturday in a game heard live on 92.1 KRLS.

The Dutch broke in front 3-0 in the first inning, getting a two-run home from Joe Rebik. After the Beavers took advantage of five Central errors to tie the game after three, the Dutch reclaimed the lead in the fourth with a pair of runs, including a Kyle Crampton solo shot.

The defensive miscues forced Central starter Zach Edwards out of the game after just three innings, and the Beavers eventually wore down the Dutch bullpen. Over the final four innings, they scored 18 runs on 17 hits to pull away. Central scored four runs in the ninth, but it was too little too late.

Buena Vista took two-of-three from Central in the weekend series, dropping the Dutch to 10-10 overall and 1-5 in Iowa Conference play. They’ll return to action Tuesday at home against Luther for a twinbill.

You can hear from both Dutch baseball coach Matt Schirm and Central softball coach George Wares Monday night at 7pm on the Central College Radio Coaches Corner on 92.1 KRLS.
