The third annual Dutchies award program was held Sunday night inside of Kuyper Gymnasium, honoring excellence within the athletic department at Central College.

Awards were handed out for the period running from April 1st of 2017 through March 31st of this year.

NCAA Division III indoor heptathlon champion Will Daniels was named the Male Athlete of the Year, while last spring’s Iowa Conference Most Valuable Pitcher, Karly Olson, was tabbed as Female Athlete of the Year.

Emily Dine’s game in December when she drilled 11 three-pointer baskets earned Female Record Breaking Performance, while Blaine Hawkins’ 498-yard seven-touchdown effort against Loras garnered Male Record Breaking honors.

Hawkins was also named Male Freshman of the Year, while Sara Tallman earned Female Freshman of the Year after setting Central’s all-time rookie hits mark last spring in softball.

Moment of the Year went to the freshman trio of Mary Gray, Kiki Pingel and Courtney Kruthoff, who swept the podium at this year’s Iowa Conference Indoor Pentathlon event. The Dutch softball team was named the Team of the Year, and Women’s Soccer earned Coaching Staff of the Year honors.

Additionally, Jacob Hay (men’s basketball) and Kate Patton (women’s track and field) were recognized for having the highest male and female student-athlete GPA, Annie DeVries (softball) won the Margorie Giles Student Life Leadership Award, Ryan Kruse (men’s track and field) won the Ron Schipper Leadership Award and Jahleel Vester (wrestling) won the Prins Sportsmanship Award.
