The Knoxville School Board has approved the Silver Cord Program to begin for the 2018-19 school year.

The Silver Cord Program is a volunteer based incentive program that allows students to wear a silver cord along with their graduation gown, earned by spending hours volunteering in the community. Knoxville Community School District Superintendent Cassi Pearson tells KNIA/KRLS News this program aligns with what they want to teach students about being active in the community, and this program aligns with the values that the Knoxville Community School District stands for. Silver Cord programs are currently in place in high schools all throughout the state.
