Congressman Dave Loebsack took a tour of the construction site of the Red Rock Hydroelectric Project Monday afternoon.

Loebsack was able to go inside the powerhouse structure and see the progress of the turbines. Loebsack tells KNIA/KRLS News projects like the hydroelectric plant are crucial to ensuring Iowa and the rest of country is energy secure.

“It just adds to what we’ve already got in Iowa,” he says. “Whether it’s wind, or solar, or some coal, natural gas–we kind of have it all here in the state of Iowa and this [project] is going to compliment that.”

He was last on site in May 2015 when the construction was still in the staging phase.

According to Missouri River Energy Services, the Red Rock hydroelectric power plant should be operational by Winter 2019.
