The PCM girls’ soccer team gave perennial power Nevada a battle Tuesday but ultimately fell in their season opener 5-0 to the Cubs.

The Mustang defense came to work, as they held the Cubs to just one goal in the first 65 minutes of the contest. Goalie McKeeley Tjaden had a few big saves including stopping a penalty kick to keep the Mustangs close. The score was 1-0 with 15 minutes left when the Cubs busted open for four goals in seven minutes to cruise to the five-goal win. Head Coach Bill Sowder tells KNIA/KRLS that was the best he has ever seen a Mustang team play Nevada and he was pleased with the performance in game number one.

PCM will search for their first win Friday when they welcome Grand View Christian.
