Pella’s boys and girls soccer teams got the better of their crosstown rivals in a doubleheader held at Pella High School last night. The Little Dutch beat Pella Christian 10-0, while the Lady Dutch won 5-0 in conference action.

Pella Girls Coach Mark Howard tells KNIA/KRLS Sports it was a slow start in only the second game of live action for the Lady Dutch, but he was excited to see the offense come alive in the 2nd half.

“I really appreciate the improvement that Coach Buchheit’s has made with his team.”. Howard says. “They really hung tough in the first half, I wish them the best for the rest of the season.”

Eagles Head Coach Mike Buchheit says his girls impressed with their early defense, but they need to be able to put that level of intensity together for a full 80 minutes.

“I was very proud of the girls tonight,” Buchheit says. “You look at this past decade, this Pella High team has outscored us 45-0.”

Ethan Poulter scored four times for the Dutch boys, with Soren Stelter and Reid McGinley each hit the back of the net twice. Maddie Canfield collected a hat trick for the Lady Dutch.

Both Eagles teams are back in action Thursday, with the boys hosting North Polk and the girls heading to Alleman. Pella’s boys return to their home field Thursday to host Southeast Polk, while the girls are off until they travel to Indianola next Tuesday.
