The Pella City Council adopted an ordinance this week to increase water and wastewater rates in the community.

City Administrator Mike Nardini says the seven percent water rate increase is the final one tied to the improvements to the water treatment plant and new Jordan aquifer well. Nardini says the wastewater bump of eight percent is the first in what he anticipates multiple increases tied to an upcoming DNR-mandated project upgrading the plant. Both increases, according to the City of Pella, equate to approximately $3 per month for each for the average city customer.
