The first day of the 2018 State Track and Field Meet is upon us, and plenty of area athletes will be competing for a state title at the Blue Oval in Des Moines.

A little bit of everything makes up the first day at Drake Stadium with a lot of sprinters, field events, and some distance events will be on tap. Plenty of preliminary rounds will make up the sprinting categories including nine area athletes competing in the open 100m, five in the 200m, and four in the 400m. PCM’s Noah Anderson is someone to look out for in the 200m, as he has posted the fastest time in the entire state for class 2A. Pella’s Emily Vos could make some noise in the 100m, as she is one of the top returners in that event from 2017.

Stay tuned to KNIA/KRLS Sports throughout the evening starting at 2 p.m. for updates from Des Moines. You can also keep track online at kniakrls.com when results become official.
