The first annual Kids Fishing Day, sponsored by the Knoxville Police Department, the Marion County Conservation Board, and the Iowa DNR will be Saturday at Marion County Park.

The event invites children between the ages of 8 and 17 to learn basic fishing instruction, compete in a fishing derby, and win prizes. Knoxville Police Officer Jamie Robinson tells KNIA/KRLS News kids can expect to learn a range of skills including the basics like casting or knot tying, all the way to cleaning a fish. Kids are encouraged to bring their own fishing poles if they have one. The event will run from 9am to 1pm with a lunch of hot dogs, chips, and drinks provided.
