The first annual Kids Fishing Day, sponsored by the Knoxville Police Department, the Marion County Conservation Board, and the Iowa DNR will be on June 2nd at Marion County Park.

The event invites children between the ages of 8 and 17 to learn basic fishing instruction, compete in a fishing derby, and win prizes. Knoxville Police Officer Jamie Robinson tells KNIA/KRLS News he is an avid fisherman, and fishing is a passion he wants to get more kids involved with because kids might be a little more addicted to indoor activities these days and he wants to show them how fun fishing can be.

Kids are encouraged to bring their own fishing poles if they have one. The event will run from 9am to 1pm with a lunch of hot dogs, chips, and drinks provided.
