The Knoxville Heritage Community Foundation held its grants and awards ceremony yesterday at the Grand Theater in Knoxville.

Over $22,000 was given away to five organizations for projects around Knoxville.

Young’s Park – $5,000 – for help in finishing the Miracle Playground; Ernie Smith
Library/Chamber – $6,000 – improvements to the Dixie Gebhardt House/Chamber of Commerce/Welcome Center; Hannah Vander Veer
Habitat for Humanity – $3,500 – outfitting a utility trailer with new tools for projects; Robin Pfalzgraf
Marion County Genealogical Society – $3,000 – to help with the costs of digitizing past issues of Knoxville newspapers; Carl Nollen
Knoxville Wellness Team – $5,000 – to help with the purchase and construction of ‘parklets’ around town; these will improve the look and feel of the areas they serve, and inspire additional interaction among users; Tyler Pearson

Established in 1985, the foundation is Knoxville’s oldest non-­profit organization. It was established to enhance the community by raising funds to be invested in special projects for the future of Knoxville.
