A Marshalltown man is accused of cashing a fake check by forging the name of a local corporation.

Benjamin Feilmeier, 29, is charged with forgery, a class D felony, and 3rd degree theft. According to court records, Feilmeier cashed a check for $996 in January of this year at a local store. He presented identification and a phone number to employees, and when they attempted to clear it the next day, it was rejected numerous times. Police say Feilmeier created a check from “Pella Windows,” and said he used to be an employee of Pella Corporation from January to May 2017 — claims the organization denied to police, and they also stated they didn’t do payroll on the date of the check in question. The check also listed the phone number and address of Lincoln Elementary under “Pella Windows.” The signature was also forged with a name of someone who does not handle financial transactions at Pella Corporation.

Feilmeier was picked up on a warrant this week.
