A new-type of housing option is coming to Pella soon, and informational meetings will be held today to discuss the project.

Vintage Cooperatives, which manages numerous independent senior living communities in Iowa, is building a 40-unit structure at Bos Landen Golf Course for persons over the age of 55. Shona Schmall with Vintage Cooperatives tells KNIA/KRLS News the project is the first of its kind in Pella, and is meant to encompass a unique community in the structure.

“It is a membership structure where owners can purchase a share, and own a divided interest in the cooperative,” she says. “Members get to customize their home to their liking, and can really make it their own.”

“There is a great, community, social aspect to this concept, with a Great Room, a gathering room, a club room, a fitness center, a workshop, and all kinds of activities that will take place.”

Schmall says there is a growing need for both senior housing and to open single family homes in the community, and this is an option for people nearing retirement or senior citizens to simplify their lifestyle while still maintaining ownership in their home.

Informational meetings about the Vintage Cooperatives project will be at 2 and 6 p.m. today at the Bos Landen Golf Course clubhouse. Those who can’t make it to today’s sessions are invited to a meeting on Tuesday, June 19th at 10:30 a.m.
