Central College’s run in the NCAA softball regional ended Saturday.

In a game heard live on 92.1 KRLS, it took a no-hitter to end Central College’s Division III tournament run as No. 7-ranked St. Thomas escaped with a 1-0 win over the 23rd-ranked Dutch.

Central had a golden opportunity in the top of the first inning, as Pella’s Sara Tallman drew a leadoff walk and stole her school record 46th and 47th bases of the season to get to third with one out. But the Dutch couldn’t chase her home, and Central never got a runner past first base the rest of the game.

St. Thomas scored the games’ only run in the second when a two-out single by Jenna Bromen scored Sam Hogan, who had reached on a double.

Annie DeVries and Mariah Fritz combined to limit a potent Tommies lineup that averages seven runs per game to just four hits on the day.

While St. Thomas moves on to the NCAA Super Regionals, Central finishes the season at 29-12 and says farewell to seven seniors.
