The Pella City Council held a public hearing for a proposed ordinance restricting the sale of fireworks in the community at their meeting Tuesday evening.
The ordinance, which had the first of three readings approved, would limit their sales to industrial zones, which city staff says are more prepared to handle potential fires and don’t have the same type of design restrictions that commercial properties do. Resolutions to work with Civil Design Advantage for engineering services for Phase II of the Pella Sports Park and Snyder and Associates for the Oskaloosa Street Corridor Redevelopment Plan were also approved.
Following regular business, the council discussed the city’s sidewalk inspection plan and moving the proposed Vermeer Trail from the west to east side of 240th Place due to the discovery of a water main. Formal action for both will be considered at a later meeting.
