Local teams will be well represented at the individual girls state tennis tournament in two weeks after the district finals were held in Pella Wednesday.

Pella’s Brooke Jorgensen qualified as an individual for the third year in a row by winning the singles meet. Knoxville had a first-time qualifier in Alex Griggs, who went to a third set with 2017 4th place state finisher Lily Roozeboom of the Lady Dutch to win and advance to the finals, where she fell to Jorgensen.

Brooke and Griggs both are looking forward to the chance to compete for a state championship.

Pella’s doubles pair of Bronwyn Metcalf and Cecily Johnson are returning to the state doubles bracket after winning the district title. The pair finished in the top eight in 2017.

For the Eagles, Cassidy Bush finished 3rd in the singles bracket and the doubles duo of Morgan Bush and Erica Van Soelen also placed in the 4th spot.

Pella and Pella Christian will have their sights set on advancing as a team this Saturday, when the Lady Dutch travel to Norwalk and the Eagles head to Osceola to take on Shenandoah in the Class 1A regional finals.
