Pickleball courts built as part of the Caldwell Park renovations in Pella are now open for play.

Local Pickleball Participant Mark Recker tells KNIA/KRLS News a group of players in the community worked with the City of Pella to include the courts as part of the project.

“It’s something we’ve been hoping for for a long time,” he says. “We’ve been playing on some temporary nets, and now to be able to have a facility that’s dedicated to pickleball with a quality surface, quality net, it’s great, and it’s a lot of fun.”

The facility was built where the old skate park used to be at Caldwell Park, just off of University Street to the south of the current tennis courts. Pickleball is a paddle sport that combines elements of badminton, tennis, and table tennis.

Equipment rentals are available at the Pella Community Center. Call the Community Center for more information about groups that play in the community.
