It’s a return trip to the substate finals for the Pella boys soccer team after a 4-0 win over South Tama.

Pella controlled possession throughout the majority of the game, but the Trojans defense was quick to the ball while loading their defense in the first 40 minutes.

Head Coach Mark Solomon tells KNIA/KRLS Sports the offense was ready and poised to seal the game in the second half, and great passes led to opportunities around the net in the 2nd half.

“[At halftime] as we talked about what we saw and what South Tama was showing us and some things that we thought we could take advantage of with what they were showing us, we thought,
okay, let’s change a little bit of our strategy on the attack, let’s make a few other plays in the middle,” he says.

Ethan Poulter led the Little Dutch with a hat trick, and Ben Nelson scored the 4th tally late in the second half.

Pella makes a return trip to the Substate final Saturday, hosting Fairfield, with a trip to the Class 2A State Tournament on the line.

The Trojans handled Knoxville in the game prior to Pella’s, winning 7-1. The season comes to an end for the Panthers with a record of 13-6.
