HCI and the Knoxville Ministerial Association are hosting a flag raising ceremony at the Marion County Courthouse tomorrow.

Morris Dyer with HCI Hospice Care Services tells KNIA/KRLS News the message given when the flag was officially accepted by the Second Continental Congress in 1777 still resonates today

Morris Dyer
“We resolve that the flag of the United States be 13 stripes, alternate red and white, and the union be 13 stars white in a blue field representing a new constellation. And that is what we are trying to do in this particular case, recognize that this is a new world that we are in, a new constellation, and we need to recognize that it’s important for us to have a better understanding of each other and come together in unity, prayer, and thought”

The flag day celebration will take place at the Marion County Courthouse bandstand, beginning 12:15.
