A heat advisory is in place for most of Central Iowa through today.

Daytime temperatures are expected to climb into the mid 90s, with heat index values topping 100 degrees through Sunday evening. Additionally, overnight lows are only forecast to drop into the mid 70s.

Residents are reminded to drink plenty of water, take breaks in the shade if you work or have sports activities outside, and wear lightweight clothing, and to never leave infants, children or pets in a parked car, even for a minute, as well as know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke.
