Continued heat and high humidity is expected through the end of the day today in south central Iowa.

A heat advisory has been extended, as high temperatures in the low to mid 90s and heat index values approaching and topping 100 degrees is expected.

Residents are reminded to drink plenty of water, take breaks in the shade if you work or have sports activities outside, and wear lightweight clothing, and to never leave infants, children or pets in a parked car, even for a minute, as well as know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke.
