Eight Knoxville errors led to 10 unearned runs as the Pella High softball team beat the Panthers 12-2 in five innings last night in a game heard live on both KNIA and KRLS.

The Lady Dutch scored runs in every inning, and coach Teresa Thompson says that it was nice to see her team take advantage of the opportunities that were given.

“We put the ball in play and they didn’t handle it well always, and that’s what we keep telling our girls.  If you put it in play, they have to play defense, and if they don’t, we’re going to run the bases and we’re going to score.  That’s exactly what we did tonight, and they did everything we asked them to do. It was a great victory for us.”

Pella was led by Maddie Parks, who was 4-4 with a triple, three runs, two RBI and two stolen bases.  Kinzi Van Wyk went 3-4 with two doubles and four RBI, and she went the distance in the circle to earn the victory.

Knoxville’s runs came on a two-run Hannah Hauschildt homer in the fifth.

Pella evens its record at 8-8 on the season, and will host Grinnell tonight.  Knoxville falls to 7-6 and will next play at Pella Christian tomorrow night, which can be heard on both KNIA and KRLS.

The Pella baseball team swept DCG in a makeup from Monday’s postponed action, winning 8-5, 6-2 in Grimes. Pella improves to 7-5 and also host No. 7 Grinnell this evening.
