The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is offering day-long camps for youth wanting to learn more about the outdoors.

Park Ranger Tracy Spry tells KNIA/KRLS News they are hosting two sessions each of their Junior Ranger and Outdoor Adventurer camps this June and July. The Junior Ranger program June 19-20th and July 18-19th is for children ages 8-10 years old who want to learn what it’s like to be a Park Ranger at Lake Red Rock.

Spry says outdoor adventurers camp June 21st and July 13th is for students 11-12 years old who want to learn how to build a fire, make an emergency shelter, perform basic wilderness first aid, learn basic GPS skills, and paddle a kayak. Group size is limited for both programs and pre-registration is required by contacting the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at Lake Red Rock.

For more information, contact the Corps office at (641) 828-7522 or via email at lakeredrock@usace.army.mil. (Kayaking will be dependent on wind/weather conditions.)
